The first settlement area of the town was starting from four directions around Bona beri, Bursa beri, Shafamo beri, Kokosa and Hawassa bier present; next it was widespread to Dayye through Botches.

Topography

Some part of the study area is located east of the Ethiopia rift valley, characterized by a descending slope from east to west. The rest part is located out of the rift valley and the altitude gradually rises from east to west. There are some important highlands and lowlands in the study area. The highest point in Arbegona Woreda is of 2553 meters above sea level. The names of the lowlands are Botches, Sunburn, Katana, and Beto, which have an altitude of 900, 1350 and 1430 meters above sea level, respectively. All of them are located in Arbegona Woreda. Taking into account the above-mentioned physical factors, the hinterland is divided into three climatic zones namely 'Kola' 'Dega' and 'Woina Dega'. The 'Woina Dega climatic zone is an area most suitable for rain-fed agriculture with higher settlement density and where urban settlement is taking place and hence with highest potential for various developmental activities. The second climatic zone is the 'Dega', where the major streams originate. This land feature serves as a water shade and has cooling effect for the surrounding areas.
