About Yayye
Around 1888 E.C the present day
Yayye town was Gudumale covered by trees of different species. The area is
characterized by broad leafed forest, composed of diverse tree species like
Zigba, Wanza, Weira, Coso tree etc. The forests of the Woreda including the
town are disappearing from time to time at alarming rate. However it is during
1935 E.C that Yayye town Municipality center. The reason behind its foundation
at its present location was because of the presence of earth road that take to
Bansa. Secondly, the availability of suitable topography, climatic condition
for settlement and agriculture and also the presence of different Mountains
including Garamba and Hafursa Mountain in the town. The first settlement area
of the town was starting from four directions around Bona beri, Bursa beri,
Shafamo beri, Kokosa and Hawassa bier present; next it was widespread to Dayye
through Botches.
The area of influence covers
Arbegona Woreda of Sidama Regional State. Astronomically, the influence area is
located between 38∘17′−38∘ 51' East and 6∘21′−6∘54′ North. Relatively, Arbegona woreda is bordered with
Kokosa Woreda and Gorche in the North, Bura and Bona Woreda in the South,
Shafamo Woreda in the west, Burra Woreda in the east. Arbegona Woreda has a
total area of 241.50 km2 from which 2587 hectare is the area of Yayye
town. The total population of the influence area is 158,687. From this
population size, 94,228 (59.4%) and 64,459 (40.6%) are rural and urban
population, respectively.
Some part of the study area is located east of the Ethiopia rift valley, characterized by a descending slope from east to west. The rest part is located out of the rift valley and the altitude gradually rises from east to west. There are some important highlands and lowlands in the study area. The highest point in Arbegona Woreda is of 2553 meters above sea level. The names of the lowlands are Botches, Sunburn, Katana, and Beto, which have an altitude of 900, 1350 and 1430 meters above sea level, respectively. All of them are located in Arbegona Woreda. Taking into account the above-mentioned physical factors, the hinterland is divided into three climatic zones namely 'Kola' 'Dega' and 'Woina Dega'. The 'Woina Dega climatic zone is an area most suitable for rain-fed agriculture with higher settlement density and where urban settlement is taking place and hence with highest potential for various developmental activities. The second climatic zone is the 'Dega', where the major streams originate. This land feature serves as a water shade and has cooling effect for the surrounding areas.
According to the 2023 socio-economic
study total populations of Dayye town was 57,303 out of which 28,797 (50.3%)
were males and 28,506 (49.7%) were females.

The table below indicates the town's current population in age and sex composition. Age and sex are population characteristics which help in planning, designing, preparing, monitoring. evaluating and implementing various development projects/plans. In this case they serve as the determinant factor to the planning process of the town.
- Education
Until 2017, there were 19 schools in
Yayye town. Of these schools 3 of them have Kindergarten, 6 of them have Primary

schools, 9 of them were owned by government, 9 by private owners and there is 1
NGO school. The table below depicts the number of schools found in town by
ownership.
Economic interactions of Yayye with
its hinterland and distantly located areas could be manifested in the forms of
flows of agricultural and manufacturing goods (marketing linkage) and movement
of capital effected through financial intermediaries(financial linkage) as well
as backward and forward linkages among agriculture and manufacturing and
services sectors.
